The Williston Fire Department is committed to providing the best service possible to Williston and surrounding areas. The department provides fire and advanced life support emergency medical services to the City of Williston and the approximately 1,000 square mile area surrounding the City in both Williams and McKenzie counties. The department is staffed by 78 career personnel.
The City of Williston seeks applicants for their next Assistant Fire Chief. Applicants should be professional command-level fire officers with demonstrated experience as a senior command officer in a municipal fire department, and who embraces a high level of personal and departmental accountability. The selected candidate should have extensive knowledge in fire suppression, emergency medical services, and emergency management.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in fire science, public administration, or a related field, and at least seven (7) years of local government fire service experience are required. A combination of education and work experience may be considered in place of a degree. Designation as a Chief Fire Officer, graduation from the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer program, and at least three years of experience as a Chief Fire Officer in a similarly sized community, or as a command officer in a larger community, is highly desired. Preference will be given to candidates with ten or more years of experience in a career or combination fire department, with three to five years of administrative or executive experience or equivalent with proven success in planning, program and policy development, and project management. Current IFSAC or NPQB Certification as a Fire Officer IV is preferred as well as completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800, and ICS 300 and 400. The City of Williston offers a competitive starting annual salary of $114,000.
