The Town of Castle Rock, Colorado, has an excellent career opportunity for a collaborative leader to serve as Assistant Town Manager in our Town Manager’s Office. Reporting to the Town Manager, this position will perform complex and highly responsible managerial work in support of the Town Manager and Town Council.

The picturesque Town of Castle Rock is a freestanding, full-service municipality of about 70,000 residents midway between Denver and Colorado Springs. The quality of life in Castle Rock is exceptionally high – nearly all residents surveyed in 2017 said the overall quality of life here meets or exceeds their expectations.

The Assistant Town Manager will oversee talented and dedicated teams that provide exceptional service delivery and customer service. He or she will be expected to build on the culture of excellence that exists at the Town of Castle Rock, while continuing to move the organization forward. The successful candidate should embrace the concept of being a working manager, providing guidance to managers and supervisors within the Town Manager’s Office while managing his or her own portfolio of projects and initiatives.

The Town Manager’s Office includes the Town Manager, two Assistant Town Managers and support staff. The Community Relations, Facilities, Human Resources, Innovation and Technology and Municipal Court divisions are also housed within the department. Assignment of specific divisions for direct report and supervision by an Assistant Town Manager will be determined by the Town Manager, in consultation with both Assistant Town Managers, to ensure the highest levels of excellence, dedication and service.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a comparably sized, full-service community. Experience in high-growth communities is greatly desired. Knowledge of budget and fiscal matters, as well as of research and presentation techniques, will be key. The Assistant Town Manager will possess a value system that embodies integrity, teamwork and exceptional service to both internal and external customers.

Generally, a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business or a closely related field – supplemented by five years of increasingly responsible experience in municipal government, or any equivalent combination, including two years of supervisory experience – is required. A master’s degree in public administration or a related field is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check prior to commencing employment. Selection will be based on best fit, competency, education, training and experience.
