The City of Douglas is seeking an experienced, dynamic and progressive leader to serve as City Manager.
Our next city manager should be described as a transformational leader with energy to match the vision and goals of our community. Small town management experience is vital in managing expenses to revenues, but we are also looking beyond transactional leadership for an individual who has experience at some point in their career in medium or large organization, not necessarily a city, but can bring broad understanding and flexibility in to help take us into the growth and direction of our future. We want to attract the best and brightest. We are looking for someone who knows how to deliver economic development projects as well as employ tools to market our city to attract and expand business and development. Our next city manager will have strong communication skills with a philosophy of open government. We need someone with strong fiscal management skills and financial acumen to develop and operate a complex municipal budget and build capacity in our budget for now and beyond. Our neighborhoods are filled with people who take pride in raising their children here with good amenities and we want a city manager to continue to leverage and improve the assets we have. We are looking for a leader who has cutting edge understanding of leading cities, someone who belongs to ICMA and state association, keeping pace with trends and training and follows their code of ethics. We prefer someone who is a credentialed manager. Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in Business /Public Administration or related field of management and leadership, and have experience in managing a City. An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered. Due to Douglas being a border, bi-cultural and bilingual community, a bilingual person is preferred.
