Summary

Town Manager - Town of Blowing Rock, NC, a scenic resort/tourism community located in northwestern NC near a major university along the Blue Ridge Parkway with year-round population of 1,280 & seasonal to 8,000, is seeking qualified candidates for Town Manager. The Town Council consists of a Mayor & 5 Council member board. The Town’s property valuation exceeds $1.1 billion, has an annual operating budget of $13.7 million with 66 full-time staff along with some part-time staff. Town functions include administration, police, fire/rescue, streets/sanitation & cemetery, parks/recreation & landscaping, water/sewer & storm water and planning/zoning. Negotiated competitive salary based on experience and qualifications, with excellent benefits including employer provided health, dental insurance and a 5% 401k contribution along with participation in the NC Local Government Retirement System. Minimum qualifications include a BA/BS degree in public administration, business, planning or other related field and at least five (5) years applicable management, assistant or department head management experience. Not required, but preferred MPA/MBA degree along with NC state/local government knowledge also desired.
This position will remain open until filled with a target date of January 18, 2019, 5:00 p.m. at which time review of received applications will begin. EEO. It is anticipated that interviews are to be scheduled late February to early March, an offer and acceptance sometime thereafter. Desire the new Manager to start prior to July 1, 2019. Residency within the Blowing Rock Fire District is required within 6 months of appointment, or another reasonably negotiated timeframe.
