Underground Utility Locator (Maintenance Technician II)

In this position you will provide underground utility locating for traffic signal and fiber optic systems.

Essential Job Functions - the essential duties an employee must be able to perform:
Conduct traffic control activities to ensure safety on the worksite; coordinate with other agencies, including Colorado Springs Utilities, outside contractors, and locating services
Complete work orders ensuring compliance with City policies and procedures
Estimate time and materials needed for job completion; requisition materials; complete work orders; monitor and maintain supply inventory
Maintain logs and records related to project activities; prepare reports
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

Knowledge of:
Services and activities of traffic engineering
Modern and complex techniques and practices utilized in traffic control
Equipment, materials, chemicals, and supplies used in traffic engineering
Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
MUTCD (Manual Uniform Traffic Control Devices)
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
Ability to:
Interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings
Work independently with little supervision and complete work as assigned
Safely operate a variety of tools, equipment, machinery, assigned vehicle
Communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Successful candidate will have:

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance
Three years of full-time experience related to traffic engineering or utility location
Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
Ideal candidates will also have:
Experience working with fiber optic facilities and traffic signal systems
Additional Information:
This position requires the ability to pull, reach, bend, climb, kneel, sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; and lift and carry 50 pounds regularly and 75 pounds occasionally; use of fingers, both hands, both legs, and distinguish colors.
